morning Sea Cruise

Your day will begin at Nelson Mandela Bay Yacht Club in the PE harbour. Meeting at 8am (time may vary on occasion to accommodate guests due to circumstances, booked guests will be asked/notified of any changes). Once signed in and briefed on the tour you will depart on your adventure and return around 12noon.

We explore Algoa Bay and go to the 2 islands, St Croix Island and Brenton Island. St Croix is home to 3000 African penguins and is a very important breeding colony situated in a Marine Protected Area. (though we have lost 90% in 15 years). It is here where guests will get a close-up encounter with these comical birds. Please note all viewing is done from the boat, no one is allowed to disembark and go onto the islands during the tour. During this cruise guests also have the possibility of spotting bottlenose dolphins (we are now known as the bottlenose capital of the world), common dolphins, humpback dolphins, bryde’s whales, minke whales, humpback whales (June to December), Southern right whales (July to September) and one of the Big 7, Cape fur seals, various species of sharks (the Great White being one of the Big7), Cape gannets and various species of pelagic birds including terns, petrels, skuas, shearwaters and albatrosses. This cruise is a very unique experience and our team will try make it the most enjoyable trip.

Alan Tours guide will meet you after lunch at 13:30 and depart for the Addo Elephant National Park, a mere 35 minutes’ drive from the city to the Southern entrance. After check in and a comfort break, we immediately start the game viewing experience.

The malaria free park is home to close to 700 free roaming Elephants and many other species including the Big 5, the Cape Buffalo, Black Rhino, Lion and the shy Leopard, amongst the many species of antelope such as the elegant Kudu, the males with the great spiralled horns, the huge but gentle Eland, Red Hartebeest, Zebra and Warthog and many more. Many colourful species of birds will entertain as well as tortoises and other reptiles.

We undertake to spend the late afternoon/early evening hours, trying to locate the best sightings of the predators and their prey as they start to flex their muscles in preparation of the evening hunt.

General:

The roads in the park are well maintained large dirt and gravel roads that enable even small sedan cars to drive on them at all times.

All vehicles are obliged to stay on the road at all times; no vehicles are allowed to drive off road into the bush.

Important info to the open game drive vehicle:

If the weather is good on the day, we will keep the canvas covers up and travel at a reasonable speed in the open vehicle so as to ensure the comfort of the guests.  The vehicle has a double windscreen in the front that also provides some protection from the wind. If the weather requires it, we drop the canvas covers.

Although we provide a step ladder you are required to have some sort of mobility. A knee replacement or so might cause difficulties.

For the ladies, we recommend a headwrap or scarf to cover your hair on the way to and from the park, with the open vehicle it can get windy on the open road and dusty in the park.

Please bring along sunhat and sunblock, a jersey/jacket for the ride. Blankets and ponchos are supplied on each trip and will be available if required.
