Algoa Bay becomes Marine Protected Area

What great news to know that the Greater Addo Marine Protected Area has been proclaimed! Many people have been working so long and so hard to achieve this, we salute you all!

We were on the good ship “My China” coming back from Bird Island, when we spotted a school of around 400 bottlenose dolphins surfing the waves just past Woody Cape at the start of the Alexandria Dunefields. These mobile coastal Dunefields are the largest in the Southern hemisphere, some 110 square km. Shell middens from the original Khoi people can be seen scattered throughout the Dunefields.

The dolphins suddenly rushed towards the boat in anticipation of some bow riding. I knew i had to change lenses and strapped on my Nikon 14 to 24mm wide angle. I was amazed at the results. I have the dolphins, the boat, people on the boat, the middle distance and the far distance all in focus! What an amazing depth of field. Once again a great showing from our Algoa Bay Hope Spot
