Collegiate Eco-Club Talk and Cruise
By Karen Keeton
Wednesday, 18th May 2022Jake and Purity visited the Collegiate Eco Club. They joined the nature minded young ladies in the afternoon of the 18th May 2022 to chat to them about Algoa Bay's marine life.
Teacher Robyn Bentley: "Please pass on our sincere thanks to Jake and Purity for a very informative session at Collegiate yesterday. The girls loved it."
Some reviews from the girls themselves:
"We had a lot of fun. We saw lots of dolphins and three big Bride’s whales and a calf. We saw a Cape fur seal eating a sting ray. And lots of penguins. Jake told us all the facts. I would rate it 6/5. My favourite was sitting in the front of the boat and watching the dolphins and I would like to go back."
Emily, Grade 4
"It was the experience of a lifetime. Very fun and full of sea life. The best sighting was of the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins and the Cape fur seal. Me and my friends had fun in the front of the boat, although one got a little seasick! At the top of the boat it was also great fun, just a bit windy on the way back. The facts about the sea animals were very interesting. I will tell all my friends about the cruise, then maybe they can go too. I really enjoyed it."
Milan, Grade 6
"It was a very awesome and interesting journey, because I loved that I could see all these sea animals. The dolphins were a very good sight to see. My favourite part was heading back sitting at the front of the boat. The cruise was really an educational experience. It was a really fun time with my friends."
Kayla, Grade 6
"It was really nice seeing so many dolphins. Jake (captain) said there were about 150 dolphins which is CRAZY. We saw a small raft of penguins, and a mother and calf Bride’s whale, which is really RARE and it was with its calf."
Lillian, Grade 4
"I very much enjoyed the cruise. It was an educational experience. It was amazing to see the pod of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, and I particularly liked seeing the Southern Right whale and her calf. The few penguins we did see were adorable. Sitting in the front of the boat with my friends was enjoyable, like a roller coaster without rails! Purity and the other guides were truly a pleasure, and should be treated like celebrities. It was an excellent experience."
Lara, Grade 6
During the months of July and August we managed to get the girls and their families on board to see the real thing:
