Spotted on one of our recent Marine Eco-cruises in the Bay - Killer Whale Predation!

We have encountered this group of Killer Whales passing through the bay before, but on this occasion, they were definitely in hunting mode. At times they were moving at great speed, with sudden direction changes, and deep dives.

This subgroup of Killer Whales (part of a larger group of approximately 30 individuals) infrequently breaks off from the main group and enters our Bay to hunt. This subgroup that breaks away often differs in numbers, with only some recognisable individuals encountered every time.

This subgroup we encountered comprised of 2 adult males, 1 younger male, 3 females and 2 calves.

We still have so much to learn about these unique and amazing apex predators, especially the movements, diet and habits of this larger group of Killer Whales that frequent our area.

When next are you going to join us on one of our Marine Eco-cruises?
