Killer Whales at the ADDO CANYONS !
By Sean Pike
Friday, 10th April 2026Our third Killer Whales sighting this year already! It looks like this year is going to be an exciting one for our Marine-Eco Cruises and exploratory trips to the Addo Canyons.
With Sea Search on board, we headed for the Addo Canyons on Friday 10th April, with our team of scientists. Far offshore, and close to our study area, a blow was spotted. As we slowly approached to investigate, a large black dorsal fin was seen. And then some more fins...
...Killer Whales!!
There was great excitement on the boat as they approached us curiously. 5 individuals were recorded. These individuals were recognized by the Sea Search team as being associated with the others we have seen this year in Algoa Bay. They are South Coast residents, observed ranging between False Bay and Algoa Bay.
And that's not all we saw on this exciting day exploring the Addo Canyons! We will be sharing more great video's and insights into the Addo Canyons, the unique submarine Canyons offshore of Algoa Bay, in the coming weeks.
