Large Male Great White Shark
By Sean Pike
Tuesday, 8th September 2026One of the largest male sharks ever seen on our Shark Cage Diving expeditions to Bird Island! This large male measures in at a massive 4.3m. That's really big for a male Great White Shark, with females getting much bigger. This individual has a tag, which scientists have been using to track it's movements. Two smaller sharks are also shown in this video.
With 3 Great Whites seen on the last 2 cage diving expeditions, it is proving to be a bumper year for our expeditions to Bird Island, in Algoa Bay, South Africa.
These recent successes does not however mean that the plight of the Great White Sharks is over, with illegal and legal shark long-lining destroying much of their food resources, and the archaic shark nets off of KZN beaches still killing many sharks.
The Great White Sharks' fight for survival is far from over.
