Welcome The Whales to Algoa Bay 2023
By Karen Keeton
Sunday, 4th June 2023Each year we become more and more excited waiting for the first Migratory Humpback Whales to arrive in Algoa Bay. This year they were right on cue with first sighting from The Willows Resort from shore being 1st June 2023 and they appeared to the delight of all on the 4th June - our special day! A great team of very enthusastic folk pulled off the best Welcoming Festival yet! Held on Sunday 4th June 2023 at The Willows Resort. Thank you to all who sponsored the event, is greatly appreciated.
What a perfect day it was. Starting off with an early Whale Trail Fun Run organised by ZSports. Visitors were welcomed by the tunes of African Drumbeat drummers who kept going with marimbas and interactive drumming for the whole morning and was a huge hit! Wonderful to see locals drumming and dancing and creating a wonderful festive vibe.
Visitors enjoyed a great range of educational talks, coastal walk and talk, food trucks, live music throughout the day, interactive exhibits and wonderful quality market stalls. If you could not join us this year take a peek through the albums to see all that happened. Thank you to all who visited and enjoyed the day, your support is greatly appreciated. Hope the pics bring back fond memories of a wonderful day.
